Turn Around follows Kane through the process of undergoing gender confirmation surgery at Shanghai’s 411 Hospital. The camera enters both the operating room and the recovery ward, tracing each subtle step of change in Kane’s body. Within the intersections of institution and lived reality, Kane’s body is transformed, and so too is their relationship to the world. With a quiet, sustained gaze, the film bears witness to experiences and choices that often resist easy articulation.

Jiamin HU
Jiamin HU is a moving image artist and curator whose research centers on queer cinema. Based between Shanghai, Dubai, and San Francisco, her practice explores the coding and deconstruction of boundaries and spaces. Using metaphorically charged imagery, she uncovers the politics of identity and the performance of gender within public spheres. Her work spans regions, including collaborations with migrant communities in the MENA region, and in East and Southeast Asia she employs documentary to trace local narratives and hidden histories.
